STC F - 2023 Annual Report

The Scientific Technical Committee “F” had two meetings in 2023, one during the Winter Meeting in Paris on February 23rd with 43 participants (10 of whom were guests) and another during the General Assembly in Dublin on August 27th with 30 participants (7 of whom were guests).

CIRP Dictionary / CIRPedia: a short presentation was given by Prof. T. Kuboki.
CIRP Novel Topics in Production Engineering: a short presentation was given by Prof. M. Liewald, as the STC representative to the CNTPE board.

38 papers were submitted since Sept. 2022, with 10 papers accepted.

(a) 2023 Keynote – progress report
Prof. E. Tekkaya presented the progress report of 2023 KN “Stress superposition in metal forming”

(b) 2024 Keynote – progress report
Profs. J. Cao and M. Merklein presented the progress report of 2024 KN “Artificial intelligence in metal forming”

Open discussion and brainstorming on topics for 2025 Keynote
Open discussion topics included possible envoys and interactions with other STCs. Prof. J. Yanagimoto presented possible KN topics based on the Google sheet results. A reduced number of potential topics moved forward for presentation during the August meeting.

Technical presentations

16 technical talks were presented, including 3 special talks from invited guests.

In 2023 thus far, there were 36 submissions with decision. Of these, 6 submissions were accepted, and at the moment, 12 submissions are under review.

Keynotes 

(a) 2024 Keynote – progress report
Profs. J. Cao and M. Merklein presented the progress report of 2024 KN “Artificial intelligence in metal forming”. 

(b) 2025 Keynote – progress report
Prof. J. Allwood presented the progress report of 2025 KN “Cut the scrap: making more use of less metal”.

(c) Selection of the 2026 keynote
The following proposals for the 2026 keynote were presented:

  • ‘Microstructure in metal forming – evolution, control and impact on product properties’ by Prof. Ł. Madej
  • ‘Shear-dominated processes and mechanics in forming and blanking’ by Prof. W. Volk
  • ‘Tube forming and processing technologies for a sustainable society’ by Prof. T. Kuboki

Based on voting, ‘Shear-dominated processes and mechanics in forming and blanking’ was selected as the 2026 keynote topic.

Targeted discussion

 Profs. Cao and Martins gave a presentation on manuscript evaluation for CIRP Annals.
