The Journal

CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology, published since 1960, is a leading journal dedicated to disseminating high-quality, state-of-the-art research in manufacturing science and technology. Through concise and rigorously reviewed contributions, it seeks to define and advance the frontiers of production engineering. The Journal provides a premier platform for the communication of outstanding research and emerging knowledge to the CIRP community as well as the broader international scientific and industrial audience, while upholding the highest standards of scientific rigor and excellence. 
 
From 2026 onward, CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology accepts submissions from researchers without a CIRP affiliation for Issues 3–6 each year, while maintaining its strong ties to CIRP through a rigorous peer review process overseen by CIRP members. 

Article Types

CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology publishes three types of papers:  

  • Regular papers presenting original research results contributing to the frontiers of manufacturing science and technology. Regular papers are published each year in Issues 3–6 of the Journal. 
  • General Assembly (GA) papers submitted in accordance with CIRP's internal regulations and submission procedure. GA papers are published each year in Issue 1 of the Journal. For submitting a GA paper, please follow this link
  • General Assembly (GA) keynote papers organized by the Scientific Technical Committees (STCs) and Collaborative Working Groups (CWG) of CIRP, following its internal regulations and submission procedure.  GA keynote papers are published each year in Issue 2 of the Journal. While regular papers may be submitted by anyone, GA papers and GA keynote papers may only be submitted or sponsored by CIRP members. Specific rules are detailed at the above links. 


Paper Submission

Editorial Manager (EM) platform 

Papers for publication in the CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology can be submitted through Elsevier's Editorial Manager (EM) platform.  

Paper templates 

For manuscript preparation and formatting, authors should consult the detailed instructions and templates provided on the above website of the Journal. Submissions are welcome in either the provided LaTeX or MS Word templates.

Paper length 

Regular papers are strongly recommended to be six pages long, including references, when prepared using the prescribed templates. This is equivalent to approximately 6,000 words without figures or tables and with ca. 30 references. Authors are encouraged to provide Supplementary Materials to support and extend the content of their submissions.  

Keywords 

You are required to provide 5-7 keywords for indexing purposes. The first four keywords must be taken from the latest CIRP Unified List of Keywords, available here. The other keywords may be taken from the list or freely chosen. 

Declaration of Interest and CRediT Author Statement 

Each submission must include a Declaration of Interest (here) and a CRediT Author Statement (here). The corresponding author is responsible for completing these forms and uploading them together with the manuscript at the time of submission. 

Policies, including the use of generative AI tools 

For general ethics and publishing policies, including the use of language, the application of generative artificial intelligence in manuscript preparation and peer review, as well as for proofs, open access, and copyright the Publisher's current policies apply. Peer Review of Papers

All articles published in the CIRP Annals – Manufacturing Technology undergo peer review, according to these review guidelines.
