STC F - 2022 Annual Report

The Scientific Technical Committee “F” had two meetings in 2022: an on-line meeting on February 17th and a meeting in presence in Bilbao on August 26th. The STC meeting in February had 46 participants of whom 4 were guests, and the meeting in August had 29 of whom 8 guests.

CIRP Novel Topics in Production Engineering:
a short presentation was given by Prof. S. Bruschi following the recommendation of Prof. T. Tolio, Chairman of the Editorial Committee of this new initiative.
CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology
74 papers were processed in 2021, with 21 papers accepted so far.
The proposal of a Special Issue on “Closed-loop property-control in metal forming” by Prof. M. Bambach was approved.

CIRP-sponsored conferences

The request of Prof. M. Dix of sponsoring the 7th ICAFT/28th SFU 2022 to be held in Chemnitz November 8-9th, 2022, was approved.

Keynotes

(a) 2023 Keynote – progress report
Prof. E. Tekkaya presented the progress report of 2023 KN “Plasticity and future opportunities of stress superimposition in metal forming”

(b) 2024 Keynote – progress report
Profs. J. Cao and M. Merklein presented the progress report of 2024 KN “Artificial intelligence in metal forming” 

Open discussion and brainstorming on topics for 2025 Keynote
Prof. G. Hirt presented possible topics on the basis of the Google sheet results. A reduced number of potential topics will be presented during the August meeting.

Preparation for the STC F officers’ election

Prof. G. Hirt presented the current procedure for the STC officers’ election. An e-mail will be sent for announcing the officers’ election and the call for candidatures.

the Editorial Board now includes prof. M. Liewald as representative of STC F. The templates for the essays were delivered.

CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology
In 2022 126 papers were submitted so far, among which 16 already accepted and 25 under review.

Keynotes

(a) 2023 Keynote – progress report
Prof. E. Tekkaya presented the progress report of 2023 KN “Plasticity and future opportunities of stress superimposition in metal forming”.

(b) 2024 Keynote – progress report
Profs. J. Cao and M. Merklein presented the progress report of 2024 KN “Artificial intelligence in metal forming”.

(c) Selection of the 2025 keynote
The following proposals for the 2025 keynote were presented:
1) “Shear dominated processes (blanking and forming) by Prof. W. Volk
2) “Cut the scrap” by Prof. J. Allwood
The two proposals were voted, and “Cut the scrap” was chosen as 2025 keynote. 

STC F officers’ election

Prof. G. Hirt announced prof. J. Yanagimoto as Chairman, prof. S. Bruschi as Vice-Chairman, and prof. B. Kinsey as Secretary.
