THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY FOR PRODUCTION ENGINEERING

The Scientific Technical Committee “F” had two meetings in 2024, one during the Winter Meeting in Paris on February 22nd with 33 participants (7 of whom were guests) and another during the General Assembly in Thessaloniki on August 23rd with 42 participants (11 of whom were guests).

CIRP Novel Topics in Production Engineering: short presentations were given by Dr. E. Simonetti and Prof. J. Ha for CNTPE essays they are leading in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology: short presentation as given by Prof. L. Fratini, where 74 papers were submitted in 2023, with 21 accepted.

(a) 2024 Keynote – progress report
Profs. J. Cao and M. Merklein presented the progress report of 2024 KN “Artificial intelligence in metal forming”

(b) 2025 Keynote – progress report
Prof. J. Allwood presented the progress report of 2025 KN “Cut the Scrap: making more use of less metal”

Open discussion and brainstorming on topics for 2027 Keynote
Open discussion topics included the possibility of an STC focused on additive manufacturing and the educational survey that was created by Prof. P. Martins. Prof. J. Yanagimoto presented possible KN topics based on the Google sheet results. A reduced number of potential topics moved forward for presentation during the August meeting.

Technical presentations

7 technical talks were presented: 1 by an invited guest, 4 related to the 2026 KN topic “Shear-dominated processes and mechanics in forming and blanking”, and 2 open topic presentations.

(c) Selection of the 2026 keynote
The following proposals for the 2027 keynote were presented:
1)    ‘Inline quality control in metal forming’ by Prof. P. Groche
2)    ‘Tube forming and processing technologies for a sustainable society’ by Prof. T. Kuboki
3)    ‘Metal forming for biomedical applications’ by Prof. M. Banu
Based on voting, ‘Tube forming and processing technologies for a sustainable society’ was selected as the 2027 keynote topic.

Targeted discussion

Preparations for the STC F officer elections were discussed.
