STC Dn - 2021 Annual Report

Meetings held

The Scientific Technical Committee Design (STC Dn) had two virtual meetings in 2021. The Winter E-Meeting on 18th February with 75 attendees and the GA E-Meeting on 27 August with 67 attendees, respectively. Additionally, STC Dn members actively attended and supported the collaborative working group meetings as well as the cross-STC group meetings.


Conferences

During the meetings, the following CIRP-owned conferences were reported or discussed.

Keynotes

STC Dn has been working on, or is preparing the following keynote papers. STC Dn members gave them comments to upcoming keynote papers:

Dn Publications

At the Virtual 70th CIRP General Assembly, 10 Dn papers were presented and discussed, which is as many papers as the previous year.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Prof. Roucoules in the STC Dn Technical Session. STC Dn thanked the lead author and the co-authors of the keynote paper for their work.


In-depth technical presentation lead-in with scientific discussion and debate

At the February meeting, one sessions of in-depth technical presentation lead-in with scientific discussion and debate took place. The session contained two presentations:

  • E-mobility: opportunities and challenges for CIRP by Prof. Joerg Franke
  • Post Corona Manufacturing Research by Prof.Tetsuo Tomiyama

Two technical presentations were also given during the GA meeting:

  • Collaborative Product-Service System (PSS) design for customization based on semantics by Prof D. Mourtzis
  • Biologically-inspired mechanical design from skeletal morphogenesis by Dr. S. Arroyave-Tobón


Strategic alignment of STC future

At the winter meeting, STC Dn officers initiated discussions about the Key drivers for future CIRP STC Dn research and publication strategic positioning. The STC Dn officers addressed the following topics:
How to write a good STC Dn paper? By Prof. Tetsuo Tomiyama
STC Dn research bibliometrics by Prof. Nabil Anwer
STC Dn strengths and future directions by Prof. Rainer Stark

At the GA meeting, Prof. Tetsuo Tomiyama addressed CIRP STC Dn Strategic Policy through the Implementation of topics identification process with Analytics.
Further discussion will be made at the next February meeting in Paris.


Other Business

STC Dn officers met virtually, on a monthly basis, throughout the year.
STC Dn officers were actively involved in discussions and exchanges with STC A and STC O officers to shape future research topics and to reinforce collaboration on new research challenges.
