STC Dn - 2018 Annual Report

Meetings held

The Scientific Technical Committee Design (STC Dn) had two meetings in 2018 in Paris on the 23rd February with 78 attendees and in Tokyo, Japan, during the General Assembly on 23rd August with 73 attendees, respectively. Additionally, STC Dn members actively attended and supported the collaborative working group meetings as well as the cross-STC group meetings.

During the meetings, the following CIRP-owned conferences were reported or discussed.

Keynotes

STC Dn has been working on, or is preparing the following keynote papers. STC Dn members gave them comments to upcoming keynote papers:

  • 2017 – “Design for reduction of energy use consumption” J. Shu, et al.
  • 2018 – “Tolerancing and Design under Uncertainty”, E. Morse, et al.
  • 2019 – “Development Capabilities for Smart Products,” T. Tomiyama, et al.
  • 2020 – “Design for Additive Manufacturing, Tools and Methods,” T. Vaneker, et al.
  • 2021 – “The Digital Design Transformation,” L. Roucoules, et al.


Dn Publications

At the 67th CIRP General Assembly in Tokyo, 12 Dn papers were presented and discussed, which is as many papers as the previous year.


In-Depth Presentation/Discussion

At the February (Paris) meeting, in-depth discussions will take place focused on the future keynote topic. This year, the 2019 keynote topic (developing capabilities for smart products) was discussed in three group discussions after Prof. Tomiyama gave the initial presentation.

At the Tokyo meeting, as in-depth discussion, PSS was discussed. Prof. Shimomura introduced the topic, and Profs. Abramovici, Umeda and Sakao discussed PSS with regard to Industry 4.0, circular economy, and its design, respectively.
