STC P - 2018 Annual Report

The Scientific Technical Committee Precision Engineering and Metrology (STC P) had two meetings in 2018 - on February 22th, 2018 in Paris and on August 24th, 2018 in Tokyo, Japan. The STC P meetings were attended by 59 members and 10 invited guests in Paris and 55 members and 4 invited guests in Tokyo.

Details of the technical presentations and discussions at the 2018 STC P meetings are in the minutes written by Andreas Archenti, STC P Secretary. The minutes are available to CIRP members at the CIRP website.

J.M. Linares, G. Goch, A. Forbes, J.M. Sprauel, A. Clément, F. Haertig, W. Gao are the authors of the 2018 STC P keynote paper entitled "Modelling and traceability for computationally-intensive precision engineering and metrology". The keynote presentation was delivered by Jean-Marc Linares in the STC P Technical Session on August 21st. Discussions were made for the keynote presentation in the STC P August meeting on August 24th. STC-P thanked the authors of the keynote paper for their efforts.

The STC P paper session was held on August 20th and 21st. It included 11 interesting paper presentations, covering a wide range of precision engineering and metrology related topics. The papers dealt with topics on 1) X-ray computed tomography ("Segmentation-free geometrical verification of additively manufactured components by X-ray Computed Tomography" by Giovanni Moroni, "Enhanced dimensional measurement by fast determination and compensation of geometrical misalignments of X-ray computed tomography instruments" by Wim Dewulf, "Model-based optimisation of CT imaging parameters for dimensional measurements on multimaterial workpieces" by Robert Schmitt.) 2) Dimensional metrology and ultra-precision machining ("Redundancy-enabled stabilisation of linear encoder performance: the biSLIDER" by Alessandro Balsamo, "A stitching linear-scan method for roundness measurement of small cylinders" by Yuanliu Chen, "Hierarchical-information-based characterization of multiscale structured surfaces" by Benny Chi Fai Cheung, “High performance ultra-precision turning of large-aspect-ratio rectangular freeform optics” by Xiaodong Zhang.) 3) Calibration and compensation of machine tools and measuring devices (“Modelling and Compensation of Dominant Thermally Induced Geometric Errors Using Rotary Axes' Power Consumption” by Rene Mayer, “An adaptive self-learning compensation approach for thermal errors on 5-axis machine tools handling an arbitrary set of sample rates” by Philip Blaser, “Integrated multilateration for machine tool automatic calibration” by Jose Antonio Yague-Fabra, “Error mapping of rotary tables in 4−axis measuring devices using a ball plate artifact” by Anke Guether.)
