STC O - 2016 Annual Report

The meetings of the Scientific Technical Committee O were held on February 18th, 2016 in Paris (66 members, 25 research affiliates, 25 guests), and on August 26th, 2016 in Guimarães, Portugal (56 members, 12 research affiliates, 17 guests).

The major activities of STC O were the following:

Manufacturing Systems Conferences

Proposals were approved to have:
• the 52nd CIRP Conference on Manufacturing Systems (CMS) to be held 2019 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The focus will be set on manufacturing systems for the future society. Conference chairmen: P. Butala, E. Govekar.
• the 54th CIRP Conference on Manufacturing Systems (CMS) to be held 2021 in Athens, Greece. The title will be “Towards Smarter Manufacturing”. Conference chairmen: G. Chryssolouris, D. Mourtzis, S. Makris.

Keynote Papers

At the Winter Meeting, it was approved that the
• 2018 Keynote Paper will be “Value Creation in Production: Reconsideration from Interdisciplinary Approaches”, co-ordinated by T. Kaihara and co-authored by N. Nishino, K. Ueda†, M. Tseng, J. Váncza, P. Schönsleben, R. Teti,…
• Cross-STC Keynote, “Design, Management and Control of Demanufacturing / Remanufacturing Systems” co-ordinated by T. Tolio and co-authored by A. Bernard, M. Colledani, S. Kara, G. Seliger…

At the GA August Meeting, a proposal for the 2019 Keynote Paper was renewed (the final decision will be made during the 2017 Winter Meeting in Paris):
• “Global Production Networks” co-ordinated by G. Lanza
Moreover, during the GA August Meeting one new Keynote Paper proposal was presented:
• 2020 STC O Keynote, “Big Data Analytics and Utilization in Future Smart Factory” (R. Gao, …)

Paper Presentations and Technical Reports

During the STC O Paper Session at the General Assembly in Guimarães, one keynote paper (by L. Monostori) and 17 session papers were presented and discussed.

At the two STC O Meetings in 2016, a total of 15 technical presentations (7 in February, and 8 in August) were delivered and discussed.

Further matters

Because of the sudden death of K. Ueda, a short memorial was given by E. Westkämper. As regards the CMS series coordinated by K. Ueda, an STC-O board was formed under the coordination of R. Teti to guide and renew the working group concerning CMS organizational issues and relevant topics of CMS. Other colleagues were asked to support in an open group.
