CIRP Conferences can allow the presentation of CIRP Journal papers

CIRP Conferences can allow the presentation of CIRP Journal papers

by the mutually agreed CIRP and Elsevier Publication Rules listed as follows (May 8, 2017)

CIRP JMST Journal first (published on journal and presented at conference – not published on proceedings)

1. The authors can submit the paper directly to the CIRP JMST for review. If the paper is accepted, the journal Editor(s) can recommend the paper to be presented at CIRP conference. The author can consult with the CIRP conference organizers for oral presentation of the research. The paper will not be published in Procedia CIRP.

2. The CIRP conference organizers can mention the paper in the editorial and add link to the article on SD (on JMST)

Transfer from Procedia to CIRP JMST Journal (submitted to Procedia and then recommended for transfer to Journal – not published in Procedia, published in CIRP JMST. In Procedia the Guest Editor(s) can mention the paper in the editorial + link to article on journal (SD)

1. At conference submission stage, the potential authors will be asked to express their interest to have their paper considered to be transferred to the CIRP JMST, indicating at the same time that – in case of acceptance for journal publication – the paper will not be published in Procedia CIRP, but its presentation at the conference is expected (mandatory).
2. After the peer review process managed by the conference organisers, the editor(s) of the CIRP JMST will be asked to check those accepted conference papers for which the authors indicated their intention for publishing them in CIRP JMST, and for which the conference reviewers also proposed this option, and to select the ones to be transferred to the journal. (Note: the proposed papers must be sent to the editor(s) of the CIRP JMST outside of EES and prior to making a transfer decision.)
3. The selected papers will be transferred to CIRP JMST.
4. Once papers have been transferred to CIRP JMST, the editor(s) would decide whether a given paper should go through a second peer review round (following the first round organised by the conference organisers). About one month should be given for the final decision on acceptance.
5. Upon decision, a given paper will be published either in CIRP JMST or in Procedia CIRP (exclusive or), but its presentation at the conference is expected in both cases.
6. The article publish in CIRP JMST may only be mentioned in the editorial of Procedia CIRP. Please find examples of Guest Editors introducing fast-tracked papers from NAMRC 2016 below:
- Editorial to the “Special Issue of Journal of Manufacturing Systems on Challenges in Smart Manufacturing” http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2351978916300038
- Editorial to the “Special Issue of Journal of Manufacturing Processes on Advancements in Manufacturing Processes” http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2351978916300026

It must be up to each CIRP conference organizer to accept this mechanism.
