Accomplishments

Cyril Gladman served his apprenticeship at the Royal Naval Torpedo Factory, Greenock, Scotland. Graduated B.Sc.(Eng.) with first class honours at the City and Guilds College of London University. Supervisor Metrology Division of the National Physical Laboratory, England, 1941.

Established a new approach to dimensioning for interchangeable manufacture. In 1948 published "Dimensional Analysis of Engineering Designs" (H.M.S.O., London). In 1947 he was invited to become the initial Lecturer in Charge, Production Engineering, at Sydney Technical College.

In 1950 he joined the Metrology Division of the National Standards Laboratory, C.S.I.R.O., as head of the Applied Mechanics Section. Gladman published many papers and several books on production engineering and geometric analysis. Probably the most important is “Manual for Geometric Analysis of Engineering Designs”, published in 1966.
