The "F.W. Taylor Medal of CIRP" is an award conferred upon younger research workers of outstanding merit who author original scientific research papers on topics falling within the fields of CIRP. Candidates for the award must be the principal author and have personally presented their research at a Research Paper Session. Recipients are not to be over 35 years of age in the year of the presentation of their paper; they may be of any nationality.

Only one F.W. Taylor Medal may be granted each year.

The Taylor Medal Selection Committee (TMSC), consists of five Fellows, including a Chairperson. On proposal of the Council, the General Assembly approves the nomination of new members of the TMSC. Each member of the TMSC shall be elected for a period of three years, starting after the Winter Meeting following the election at the General Assembly, and shall be eligible for only one re-election. The TMSC may seek the advice of additional Fellows when deemed necessary.

Candidates for the Taylor Medal must be proposed by Fellows (Honorary and Emeritus as well) before May 1st of any year by e-mail to the CIRP Office. A complete nomination stating the qualifications of the candidate and indicating the scientific interest and practical value of the work should be sent to the CIRP Office. The proposer must not be an author or co-author of the paper, but may have sponsored the paper.

The Chairperson of the TMSC, through the CIRP Office, shall submit the nomination related to each candidate to three expert assessors. The Chairperson of the TMSC is responsible for choosing the expert assessors in coordination with the Chairperson of the STC concerned. The STC Chairperson shall forward a list of names (more than three) of qualified assessors all of whom can attend the nominee’s presentation and the Chairperson of the TMSC will choose the three expert assessors from those names. The expert assessors must be Fellows and cannot be proposers for the candidate or members of the TMSC.
Before June 1st the Chairperson of the STCs concerned will propose the Expert Assessors to the Taylor Medal Committee who will ask them to listen to the presentations at the General Assembly and review the work done by the candidates.

The expert assessors’ reports are due in the CIRP Office by October 1st. Their reports, together with the proposer’s nomination referred to above, will be reviewed by the Taylor Medal Selection Committee at its Winter Meeting in Paris. The TMSC will recommend to Council the candidates it selects following this meeting.
After the approval by the Council, the successful candidate is to be informed of his/her selection and is to be invited to attend the following General Assembly to receive the Award. (see Time-Table in  Appendix 12).
