STC S deals with research into the geometrical, physical and chemical properties of the workpiece surface in relation to the production process concerned. This has involved the preparation of a CIRP standard for measuring roughness parameters and collaborative projects on measuring surface harness, residual stresses and crack detection on workpiece surfaces.
