Candidature for Fellow Membership

Candidates for Fellow membership must be proposed by four Fellows (Honorary and Emeritus as well) from at least three different countries. When possible, one of the sponsors should be from the candidate's country.

To be proposed, the candidate must have personally presented to a General Assembly an original paper of which he is the principal author. The subject of the paper must be within a field of interest to CIRP. The proposal of a candidate must be made in writing and submitted to the Secretariat before June 15th of the third year following presentation of the paper.

The sponsors are responsible for submitting a complete set of documents, using the official Nomination Form available online:

I.   a supporting letter from each sponsor
II.  a complete curriculum vitae, with a photography
III. a list of publications of the candidate
IV. a statement of the candidate's position held, activities and contribution to the professions and sciences of interest to CIRP (in the Nomination Form)
iv. a record of prior involvement with CIRP, if any (e.g. Associate membership, Corporate membership, STC activities, invited speaker, prior nominations, attendance at General Assemblies as a guest, etc)
v. a written statement by a Fellow from the candidate's country certifying that a minimum of two-thirds of that country's Fellows support the nomination (applicable only for countries with at least three Fellows).

The proposals describing the candidates will be examined by the Credentials Subcommittee and their recommendations forwarded to the Nominations Subcommittee. The decisions of both subcommittees shall be submitted to the Council by the Vice President.

No later than two months before the opening date of the General Assembly, a ballot on each Fellow candidate will be available to all the Fellows and Honorary Fellows, together with the Council's recommendation and the candidate's file. All voting will be done by electronic ballot only. At least 3/4 of all the Fellows and Honorary Fellows who have cast a vote must have voted in the affirmative and in addition, the number of votes in the affirmative for any candidate must exceed fifty percent of the current number of Fellows and Honorary Fellows for the nomination to be accepted.

Any Fellow who for three consecutive years has not taken part in activities of CIRP, by attending the meetings of the General Assembly or of the Scientific Technical Committees or by giving papers, may be considered by the Council as resigning from membership and shall be warned by a letter from the President. The President shall ask for more active participation before a final decision is made regarding termination of membership.

The number of Fellows shall not exceed 175.
