The aim is to create a sustainable network affiliated with CIRP to promote and to develop upcoming young researchers in production engineering.
Affiliates will create an information exchange network on internet, exchange and discuss research results, create joint research projects, and get easy access to CIRP members.

Conditions for nomination:
- Candidates should at least have been working in research (in academics, national laboratory or industry) for more than 2 years.
- The minimum requirement should be a Ph-D.
- Candidates must be proposed by a CIRP Fellow only.
- Candidates must be mentored by a CIRP Fellow during duration of membership.
- Candidates need not be older than 36 years.
Approval of membership will be taken by the council.
Maximum duration of membership: 6 years (3 years, one renewal).
Each CIRP Fellow is allowed to mentor up to 3 young researchers.
For the time being, Research Affiliates can register directly to the January meetings and August General Assembly, without needing any invitation by their sponsor.
They can join all Track, STC and CWG meetings.
They can also attend CIRP Conferences and submit papers to the CIRP Journal of MST.
No membership fee for CIRP Research Affiliates (but must pay regular attendance fee charged for GA, Conferences etc., as any other member).
Each Affiliate receives a membership list (CIRP Directory) and gets access to the website.
Deadlines for proposing a candidate: 1st December for the January meetings, and 15 June for the General Assembly meetings.
